Falling for Makeup: A Beginner's Guide 001

18:00

Today on the blog I wanted dive deep into makeup. But no, it's not going to be a review, first impression or any of that today. What I wanted to talk about was the experience of makeup, from starting out as a newbie with an infatuation into becoming a more experienced makeup enthusiast. I won’t venture off into calling myself a pro though, because I feel like I still have quite a way to go. I want to share my experiences, tips, tricks and suggestions that I have gathered over the past 3 years with you all.

For this initial post however, what I want to share are the beginnings of my experience with makeup in going from a hate to love relationship.

So the story begins at the age of 14. This is the age where I first remember having a conscious opinion on cosmetics and the opinion wasn’t a good one. At that point I was in high school and makeup wasn’t allowed. A strict no no. But there are rebels in every school, and for every rule there's someone to break it. I would see girls going around sporting it and constantly getting in trouble for it. I didn’t understand the point of it, the simple thing would’ve just been to not wear it.
And when we start doing makeup for the first time, it doesn’t look too well done in the beginning stages. We’ve all been there – don’t lie. And so this was what the girls at school would rock behind the teachers’ backs. I didn't get why someone would risk getting sent to the office just to wear blue eyeshadow. So I hope you can see why I was so perplexed about the infatuation. Don’t get me wrong, I knew that makeup could look good, but I thought that you would have to have a makeup artist at your disposal to get anything near presentable. Yeah.

Fast-forward to age 16 and I somehow find myself watching the likes of Tanya Burr and Zoella on YouTube. They made applying makeup look so effortless with glamorous end results and it looked so fun that I wanted to try.

Now that the interest was there, that’s when things got hard. Thoughts like:

What do I buy?

Man, makeup can be expensive.

What’s a must in the beginning?

Where can I shop for affordable with quality included?

Why does my cat eye look so off?

And this is why I want to start this series on my blog, so that I could address these questions. I now feel that I’m in a position of enough experience to share some tips that are worthwhile and so I hope that you tune in for the next instalment of Falling for Makeup.

If you liked this post or if there is something that you’d specifically like to see in this series, please let me know in the comments below. Your comments and support means a lot to me. Also, I just want to apologise for missing last week's post. I wasn't able to get this one ready in time to go up on Tuesday, and then I didn't want to upload it on Wednesday because that would just mess up the whole Tuesday posting schedule that I have going and the OCD inside would not allow. And so here it is a week later. I hope you enjoyed it.

Blogging schedule, Tuesdays at 6pm AST.
